Si tiene \u00e9xito, llegar\u00e1 a Fobos en agosto del pr\u00f3ximo a\u00f1o y se posar\u00e1 hasta tres a\u00f1os para recolectar al menos 10 gramos. La misi\u00f3n, en colaboraci\u00f3n con EE. UU., Europa, universidades y empresas, busca ser el primer viaje de ida y vuelta a esa zona y sentar bases para la exploraci\u00f3n humana de Marte. Tambi\u00e9n estudiar\u00e1 c\u00f3mo se formaron Marte y sus lunas, clave para entender el sistema solar: la hip\u00f3tesis del gran impacto frente a la de captura de asteroides. Asimismo, observar\u00e1 Deimos, sin aterrizar. El aterrizaje es dif\u00edcil por la baja gravedad de Fobos.
