El Ej\u00e9rcito lo vincul\u00f3 a investigaci\u00f3n por trata y abuso sexual. Reimberg afirm\u00f3 que pese a los antecedentes, no se presentaron cargos y pidi\u00f3 a la Fiscal\u00eda General reaccionar, insistiendo en el deber estatal de proteger a la ni\u00f1ez. Ecuavisa se\u00f1al\u00f3 que mencion\u00f3 antecedentes similares; la Fiscal\u00eda no explic\u00f3 su decisi\u00f3n. El rescate surgi\u00f3 de indagaci\u00f3n conjunta de fiscal\u00edas de Ecuador y Per\u00fa con apoyo militar peruano, y apunta a intercambio transfronterizo de menores hace un mes.
