Jos\u00e9 Julio Barrezueta, empresario que vio caer su hotel, lo resume: \u201cTarqui mov\u00eda todo\u201d. Pero el sismo no solo derrumb\u00f3 edificios, fragment\u00f3 esa centralidad. La actividad se dispers\u00f3 a otros barrios. De unos 35 hoteles, hoy quedan apenas 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nombres emblem\u00e1ticos como Las Rocas o Panorama desaparecieron.<br>La reconstrucci\u00f3n integral nunca lleg\u00f3. Hubo apoyo para retirar escombros, pero cr\u00e9ditos insuficientes. Barrezueta decidi\u00f3 quedarse y reconstruir dos pisos con esfuerzo y deuda: una forma de resistencia en zona abandonada. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hoy, extranjeros se asoman entre grietas; edificios deteriorados sirven de refugio improvisado o alquiler m\u00ednimo. Trabajadoras sexuales buscan clientes en esquinas y los llevan a hostales vetustos. Un enorme terreno bald\u00edo, donde se prometi\u00f3 un mercado, es una cicatriz del olvido.<br>Plutarco Bowen, del sector hotelero, afirma: \u201cTarqui se puso de rodillas\u201d. Faltaron pol\u00edticas claras y una hoja de ruta. Diez a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s, la zona cero resiste, pero no ha vuelto a ser lo que fue.
