El jefe de la zona cuatro de Polic\u00eda, Willian Calle, explic\u00f3 que tras el asesinato de Moncayo, la madrugada del 24 de febrero en el barrio La Revancha, se allan\u00f3 una vivienda donde se hallaron balas calibre 9 mm compatibles con las usadas en el ataque contra las dos mujeres, perpetrado el 22 de febrero en la avenida 4 de Noviembre. En ese crimen, las v\u00edctimas viajaban en un veh\u00edculo junto a un conductor herido; L\u00f3pez Bail\u00f3n falleci\u00f3 en el lugar y Murillo Anchundia en un hospital. Las mujeres, oriundas de Montecristi, no ten\u00edan antecedentes penales. Los sicarios se movilizaban en una motocicleta AX4, vestidos de oscuro y con rostros cubiertos, y huyeron tras disparar. Peritos de Criminal\u00edstica recolectaron cuatro vainas percutidas en el sitio. Los cuerpos fueron trasladados al Instituto de Ciencias Forenses de Manta para las autopsias. La investigaci\u00f3n, mediante labores de inteligencia, permiti\u00f3 una persecuci\u00f3n que culmin\u00f3 el 24 de febrero en el sector Altagracia con la captura de los sospechosos: Anchundia Ch\u00e1vez L.E. (29), Mendoza Mu\u00f1oz J.A. (26) y L\u00f3pez Franco M.L. (19), sin antecedentes. Se incautaron 36 municiones, un taxi y tres celulares, desarticulando una c\u00e9lula delictiva. El ataque a Moncayo, de 22 a\u00f1os, fue con m\u00e1s de 30 disparos; estaba acompa\u00f1ado de una mujer que result\u00f3 herida.
